Privacy Policy

What Serifu collects, why, and who processes it.

Serifu is operated by Peter, an individual ("we"), who is the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For anything about your data, email support@serifu.net.

Your files

Your manga files stay on your computer. When you translate a page, the page image (and crops of its text regions) is sent to our servers only for that request, passed to the AI providers below, and not stored afterwards, including pages refused by the safety checks in our Acceptable Use Policy. We do not use your pages to train models.

What we collect

  • Account: email address, name, and, if you sign in with Google, your Google account ID and profile picture.
  • Credits: your balance and a ledger of grants, purchases, pages used and refunds.
  • Linked computers: for each signed-in app or browser, the time it signed in, its user agent (for example Serifu/0.1.0 (Windows)) and IP address.
  • Payments: Waffo processes payments as merchant of record. We receive the order ID, amount and your email; we never see card details.
  • Support: messages you send us.

Why

To run your account, translate your pages, charge and refund credits, prevent abuse, and answer support requests.

Who processes data for us

We use carefully selected service providers, bound by data processing agreements, only for the purposes below:

  • Hosting and infrastructure: running the website, database and email delivery.
  • Payments: a merchant of record that handles payment, taxes and receipts.
  • AI processing: models that segment, read and translate pages and clean artwork, and a content moderation service that checks pages and results for prohibited content.
  • Sign-in: Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Newsletter: an email service, only if you subscribe.

They may only use your data to provide these services to us. Some are located outside the EU; where that is the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. Ask support@serifu.net for the current list of providers.

Retention

Account and credit records are kept while your account exists. Deleting your account removes them, except records we must keep for tax and accounting. Page images are not retained.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw consent. Delete your account from Settings, or email support@serifu.net; we reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your EU country.

We process account, credit and payment data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), and sign-in and abuse-prevention data for our legitimate interest in keeping Serifu secure.
